Visarun Thailand: Savannakhet Laos

A few kilometres outside Mukdahan is the  friendship bridge to Savannakhet in Laos. where you can do a visa run/renewal of your visa.

Savannakhet is host to a Thai Consulate and is a good option to renew your visa, the closest alternative  if you’re based in Isaan.

You can get there with bus, taxi, VIP bus (like this) or use your own vehicle, but if you want to do the last alternative remember that you will have to get a passport for your vehicle before you leave for Laos.. Try to arrive in mukdahan about 07.00 if you dont have apasspourt for your car, if not you might have to wait in line for a long time..   The Thai consulate in savannakhet close their gates at 11.00. After that you will have to wait till the next day to apply for a visa..

There is a local bus service from Mukdahan to the bridge that should cost no more than 50 Baht. The visa to for Laos should cost around 1500 bath. The rate is differs ffrom what country you are from.

If you want to get to the Thai consulate early be the last one on to the bus so that you can be the first one in line for aLao visa..   When you get your Lao visa you can choose to take a bus into savannakhet, but i advice you to use the tuk tuks parked outside the lao border crossing to get there faster..

The Thai consulate in Savannakhet opens at 08:30. You’ll need 2 passport photos, the completed application form, 2 photocopies of the photo page of your passport, signed by you and the visa fee. There is a shop on the other side of the street of the Thai consulate, they will help you with everything you need exept the photos for 50 bath..  Thats up to you..   if you want to fill out the papers yourself you can choose to do so..  After giving your passport to one of the consulate officials you will get a slip with a number on it… dont loose it..

It will be the next day, or two days later before you can collect your passport.  Return to collect your passport when told to do so probably about 14.00 the next day. Your receipt number will be called and make sure you check everything is in order with your visa .
