Jomtien Beach or Chom tian is a section of Pattaya, a city in Thailand,located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand about 165 km southeast of Bangkok in the province of Chonburi.

It is located about 3 km south of South Pattaya and is home to many high-rise condominiums, beachside hotels, beaches and restaurants. The area is a bit more relaxed than Pattaya city and for those that isn’t into the sextrade in pattaya might like this area better.

The town

There was a construction boom in the last several years with many new condominiums as well as housing developments in the Jomtien area.It has become quite popular with Bangkokians seeking a second home and retired expats. The Jomtien Complex includes a large group of shophouses, many restaurants, bars and stores..

A recent trend has been the opening of many upscale restaurants along

Thappraya Road, the main thoroughfare connecting Pattaya and Jomtien.

Attractions

Jomtien Beach is known for its water sports (jet skis, para sailing, scuba diving), and for several annual sponsored events and festivals, attracting visitors from around the world. The city is close to Pattaya , taking a taxi takes about 15 to 20 minutes so if one dont want to live in Pattaya this is a very good alternative..

Transportation

Road
  1. By the Bangkok-Chonburi-Pattaya Motorway (Highway No.7) The motorway is linked with Bangkok’s Outer Ring Road., (Highway No. 9) and there is also another entrance at Si Nakharin and Rama IX Junction.
  2. By Bang Na-Trat Highway (Highway No. 34) From Bang Na, Bang Phli, across the Bang Pakong River to Chonburi there is a Chonburi’s bypass that meets Sukhumvit Road., (Highway No. 3, passing Bang Saen Beach, Bang Phra to Pattaya.
City roads
  • Beach Road: this street runs parallel to the beach
  • Tappraya Road: this street connects Beach Road to Pattaya Second Road.
  • Thepprasit Road: this street connects Tappraya Road to Sukhumvit Road.
  • Soi Watt Boon: This street connects south Jomtien Beach to Sukhumvit Road
Bus

Intercity transport is usually through one of two bus stations, one for Bangkok and one for other destinations. Pattaya is served by frequent bus services from Bangkok’s Northern Bus Terminal (Morchit) and the Eastern Bus Terminal (Ekamai). Buses from Pattaya serve nearby provincial towns and direct long distance routes serve many provincial capitals.
